EHang Ghost Drone Review
Touted as the easiest drone to fly, the Ehang Ghost Drone gives you everything you want in a quadcopter. The Ghost Drone made it’s debut in the high end quadcopter arena as an Indiegogo project with an aim to make drones easier to fly and to be more accessible without having to give up features found in the competition, such as the DJI Phantom Vision Plus. The Ghost drone attempts to take all the guess work out of flying quadcopters.
When the team at EHang started out on the Ghost Drone project, they saw that hobby and professional drones were difficult to fly, crash easily, and are pretty expensive. Their solution: A drone capable of all levels of flying. They built a drone that was designed for all types of flying, but focused on a few common tasks that drones are called upon to do:
- For Documenting travels and adventures
- Use by Photographers and filmmakers
- General flight by drone users of all experience levels
- Extreme Sports enthusiasts
- Anyone who owns a GoPro camera
No Assembly Required – Ghost Drone is RTF!
Here’s the features of the Ghost Drone:
- High precision GPS (UBlox 6M)
- Weight: 1.4lbs
- 2D gimbal (an optional feature)
- 30 minute max flight time without gimbal; 20 minute max flight time with GoPro and gimbal
- 3-bladed 8045 reversible propeller
- Up to 0.6 mile control distance
- Can reach speeds of up to 49 mph, but speed is set to 10 mph for safety
- Wind and water resistant
- Auto return feature
- Night mode
- Auto-follow mode
- Compatible with GoPro cameras
- Single-click commands
- Four colors: Red, blue, white and black
- Ghost is controlled by an intuitive smartphone app, which is why it’s so easy to fly. It comes pre-assembled, so you can start flying right away.
While the auto return and auto follow modes aren’t new to quadcopters, the Ghost Drone performs these functions a lot better than comparable drones, but requiring less programming to do so. In auto-follow mode, the Ghost Drone will tag along with you wherever you go. So, if you’re biking, skateboarding, skiing or doing whatever it is you love, Ghost will follow you around and capture every moment of your adventure. And when you’re ready to call it a day, the auto return feature will ensure that your drone lands safely right where it took off.
Ghost Drone is Controlled By iOS/Android Devices
No need to carry a big, bulky radio control for the Ghost Drone is flown using something you probably already have in your pocket… your iOS or Android device. The Apps make it ridiculously simple to fly the Ghost, and using Auto Mode, for instance, you just have to tap your finger on a map to make the drone fly there. Hovering, Take off and Landing are already preprogrammed into the drone so you don’t have to learn how to perform these functions.
The App will let you know when the Ghost’s batteries are low, and if they get down past a certain point, the Drone will return and land automatically before conking out.
Drone, camera and micro controls are also available through the app. The drone controls allow you to adjust the orientation and the height of Ghost in a simple way. Swipe the vertical bar up or down to control the altitude. Swipe the horizontal bar right or left to swivel your camera.
And there are even more controls for your camera. Just like the drone’s controls, a vertical bar allows you to tilt your camera up or down. A horizontal bar allows you to tilt right or left.
Once your piloting skills have improved, you can use the micro control to further adjust the position, height and angle of your drone for more precise shots.
